This morning I feel at least twenty years my senior. As if I slipped through some wrinkle in time somewhere in my sleep, and my face in the mirror reassures me that I must have slipped back again, but maybe this is the sort of hangover one gets from time-traveling in one's sleep ( Read more... )

But, really... what was the last good movie (or good awful movie, if you prefer) Wolfgang Petersen actually made?

When I see Andre Braugher is in a movie and still decide there's no way in hell I'm going to watch it...

Well, Das Boot is brilliant, one of my "100 Best," but that was 1981. And Enenmy Mine had it moments. More recently, I quite liked In the Line of Fire. Air Force One was big dumb fun. Outbreak wasn't a total loss. Kind of liked The Perfect Storm. But then there's Troy, which was every bit as dumb and dull as Poseidon. Mostly, thinking about it, Petersen has entirely failed to live up to the standard he set for himself with Das Boot. Which is really kind of depressing.

Perzackly. He's made some fun, big, dumb action movies, but Das Boot was a fun, big, SMART action move. I keep waiting for the next one, and hoping someone doesn't come up with the bright idea of Das Boot II: Periscope Up!...
