I remember one of the jokes running through the Arkansas "equal time for scientific creationism" trial in 1982, back when Wickramasinghe was one of the witnesses for the defense. Just a short time before, his and Fred Hoyle's book Diseases From Space had been published, and the reporters covering the trial joked "Honey, I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that I have herpes. The good news is that I got it from outer space."
