Another Day on Earp.

Because I ego-surf (and surely no one else still uses that term, ego-surf), I happened across this quote on LJ a few minutes ago, regarding my writing: "all i know is that there's something almost like 'all's lost and we still live through this shit' about her style." And, setting aside issues of grammar and word choice, I thought, frell, that's ( Read more... )

She is not the most lettered of women, but she gets at you.

Meanwhile, the more educated about the roots of Wicca and modern Neo-Pagan witchcraft I become, the less it seems I shall ever truly be a part of it.

i'm pretty sure that's what happend to me too.
i studied my way out of any "normal" religion (i.e. just about anything any more than ten people believe together). hence why i've fallen back to just occasionally attending a UU church.

Save for the deeper parts of the faerie tradition, which is strangely considered left hand path, most of Wicca and neo-Paganism is not for me. The focus on gender and a few other things rankle me. Think outside the box, people! Not to mention the negative experiences I've had during my involvement with the Mississippi and southern pagan community in the last 6 years. There are very good reasons as to why I'm solitary.

Have you ever looked into The Temple of Set? Admittedly, it isn't for everyone, and I don't hold steadfastly to *everything* on the info page. However, in the least they encourage and allow room for different approaches and views.

How is it considered left hand, and by whom? I'm curious. Most Faerie Wiccans I've met have been no more harmful or intimidating than any others. Which is to say not intimidating or harmful at all.

Perhaps our definitions of left-hand vary. For instance, in the Hindu faith, anything tantric is considered left hand path to that faith for varying reasons ( ... )

Wicca and many facets of neo-paganism doesn't seem to like one having a will or an independant brain very much at times.

That becomes the way of any organized endeavour, especially one in its infancy - people who find themselves in positions of authority get defensive awfully fast.

It's been a long time since I spent much time around Wiccans or Neopagans that had any connection to the larger community, so I'm always curious about what they're up to. Thus my question.
