A rambling assortment of events, observations, and nonsense.

I think I pretty much sidestepped St. Patrick's Day this year. I just didn't feel quite up to all the drunken green foolishness of shamrocks and Guinness and leprechauns. I hung my Irish flag on the front porch, listened to Rum Sodomy & the Lash, and then went on about my day ( Read more... )

Agreed on the ID thing. When I had my purse stolen, there went all my ID except my now-expired passport. To get new ID, you need to show ID. It's a vicious circle. I can renew my driver's license online when it gets within one year of its expiration date - no verification required. I cannot replace the stolen one in the same way, though none of the info (address, etc.) has changed. It makes no sense. ID can be forged so easily it's pretty much a joke as far as "proving" anything. It's just another PITA encumbrance.

re: the passport
I know as far as the I-9 (HR being my current area of expertise) that it will accept an expired or unexpired passport. I know you don't plan on applying for other employment, but for ID purposes the passport may still be good-as long as you don't plan on leaving the country. It's worth looking into...

No italics this time! Ha ha.

i got my passport about a year or so ago just in case. you know just in case i get this uncontrollable urge to leave, or if i find an unbelievable deal to ireland that is so inexpensive that i'd be an idiot to pass up. i still have no stamps in it. i'm so worried about proving who i am that if i leave home without my wallet (and thus my license) it actually affects my mood. and since i work for a shipping company that has a lot of planes i'm told that the background check that i went through when i was hired actually gives me an official security clearance. i have no idea what level, but i still really, really want a laminated piece of paper that says so. that'd be kinda cool. oh, if i have my work id badge with me at an airport i can go though the airline employee security line. now that's cool!!! especially when there are loooooong lines.
