It was indeed brilliant and perfectly in keeping with Martin's intention of taking apart the usual fantasy tropes. I agree also that it was always an implicit possibility. I've seen some very emotionally naive commentators claim that someone who'd suffered a lifetime of abuse would never be its perpetrator...

Well, part of my appreciation comes from seeing the fans outraged, as they were by the supernatural aspect of Battlestar Galactica's finale. If they'd bothered to look instead of expecting continual gratification of their most shallow expectations and demands, it could be seen right from the beginning.

Chernobyl's going to be my reward to myself for a hard day's work tonight.
