We awoke to rain and the sound of motorcycles racing. At first, I mistook the latter for the wind, not yet quite coherent and thinking myself still home in Providence. There's a race course just over the ridge from my mom's house, and I think those damn fools race every damn day. Even on Sunday. Which it is. Last night, I talked about going to ( Read more... )

I was raped by two men once, and on top of the sheer horror of it (later, I could not shit for a whole week) I had to do my best to keep silent the whole time, because only a thin wall separated my room from the next, and if my neighbor heard anything he would have proof that I was gay and I would lose room, and job, and probably my life.

Yet somehow I find your experience even more horrifying. A woman should not have to go through that, no matter what body she was born in.

It's ridiculous you have to use a men's restroom. I can see why you made the choice though. The outrage and fighting isn't worth it. Still, these are shitty times and it's crazy to say this is going on in 2017.

Jeez, that sounds like an unpleasant experience. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I wonder why men's restrooms would be cleaner.

I leave you with a photo of the quilt my mom made as a tribute to my Grandma Ramey (1914-2005), who was also a quilter

That is beautiful.

Do what you need to do to stay safe. I just hope that doesn't involve having to climb underneath more toilet-stall doors, because aaaaagh.
