Well, if it's any consolation, even people still excited for the film hate the trailer. Kevin Smith even suggested the person who cut it maybe oughtn't be fired but should be sat down and talked to. There've been several fan cuts of the trailer, this one seems to be the best:
Never mind that the whole film projects a weird squeaky cleanness that is entirely at odds with the grime and grit of the original, there seems not to be one iota of wit to the film's comedy. Yes, Ramis and Aykroyd's film was lowbrow, but it was very, very smart. I know that's a fine line, but it's a crucial oneThat "grit and grime" was so much a part of the original film's comedy, the feeling that these were three eccentric guys from the university doing something very strange and foolhardy with the money from a third mortgage on Ray's house. Well, it's certainly a better edited trailer, and it leaves out most of the humorless humor. But it gives me no more hope for the film.
The comedy in the new trailer is much more ironic.
And therein lies the problem.
