On Saturday, Ireland granted gay couples the right to marry. On Sunday, Tanith Lee died.

This little box of light brings me the world.

And here it is, Number Fifty-One.

There's really nothing profound that can be said about a fifty-first birthday.

I hope it is not a bad birthday nonetheless. May it even be happy.

My thanks to the following folks who were kind enough to send gifts

You're quite welcome.

Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (1994), which is the same gloriously hallucinogenic nightmare I remember

Definitely my favourite Oliver Stone movie. Great soundtrack, too--it was my first exposure to Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Jane's Addiction, and Dr. Dre.

Ireland is one of the most religious countries in Europe, and it was the first country to legalize gay marriage by popular vote of it's citizens. Happy birthday, I hope you have many more until we hit the singularity.
So sad about Tanith Lee. Ask not for whom the bell tolls.
