1. Partly cloudy out there, and that beats yesterday. It looks like today will be warm, before - once again - the temperature drops out from under us. Currently, it's 75˚F, and the projected high is 82˚F.

2. Day before yesterday, Kathryn and I went to a matinée (Remember when those were cheap?) screening of George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, and ( Read more... )

It's almost inconceivable to me that any scientist would do such a thing, much less do such a thing to a person whom they once considered a friend and colleague.

This is a heinous act, under any circumstances, and I wish there was an easy answer or rectification for it being inflicted upon you.

I am not familiar with Predestination (or, embarrassingly, the short story it was based on). I must change this.

Have you talked with the people who used your work? It seems to me the only thing to be done would be to publish some sort of acknowledgement.

I don't think it matters if you are a "real" paleontologist or not. If you contributed to a published work, you should get credit for that contribution.

If it makes you feel any better, Jeff Mariotte walked out on 'Fury Road', hating it for the same reasons you do; frame rate/editing and lack of character development. I'm waiting for Netflix.

I'm guessing that the institution paying said scientists is just as invested in their reputation as the individuals in question. I'd Xerox your relevant notes and mail it to their department head with a note that you're sick of worrying over this, so that person should decide how to sort it out.

(Offered in the spirit that rejection of unsolicited advice from the internet, which is an entirely reasonable policy to have, might clarify your wishes on the matter.)

You are a Paleontologist--Just because you are not "Practicing" doesn't make your previous accomplishments any less. I'm a Substance Use Disorder Counselor--Certified--just because I'm retired, that doesn't make me any less of one.

Do you have a friend who is a Lawyer? You've got the paper trail--that's what counts. It's really up to you what you do but I believe credit should go to the achiever. And that's you!

I just want to tell you that, as a person, from what I know, you are wonderful. Never settle for less.
