I knew someone who claimed trees tried to grab him. I think it was the acid he was taking. Thanks for the photos.

Looks to be a Kwanzan cherry tree, judging by the leaves and the arrangement of the clusters of flowers. I could be wrong. Nice spider... I bet it's a well-travelled arachnid. (Some well-travelled arachnids never write a single word).

I take it revisiting the Southern Reach trilogy is also connected to Alex Garland being announced as director of an adaptation of the first volume? I have yet to read the second and third books but that announcement certainly catapulted them to the top of my pile of books to be read.
