Somehow I never knew limpets were also known as slipper shells.
It's complicated. To a zoologist, "true limpets" are members of the Patellogastropoda, which does not include slipper shells. The word "limpet" gets applied to all sorts of snails that are not actually limpets. This is the trouble with common names.
When I was a teen my dream was to be a marine biologist but apparently my scientific education never went far enough that I learned this. Thank you. (and reminds me of my past enjoyment of collecting from the beach and pulling off the shells from rocks and such.)
