Reptile volant et la Dame

Outside, where the sun has not yet touched, there's a thin frosting of snow. It'll be gone as soon as the cold sun finds it. Winter eats its own. Currently, 29˚F here in Providence, but the ever helpful windchill means it feels 18˚F. In the South, we'd call this goddamn cold.

Yesterday I intended to get Sirenia Digest #94 together and out to ( Read more... )

It's one of those pieces I'll never truly believe is finished. It can always be made just a little bit better.

It is pretty damn good, I should mention.

Last night we finally were able to see Luc Besson's Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec!

Lucky! I couldn't believe that never got a theatrical release here. I shall track down a DVD forthwith.

Gagh! I forgot to mention you read it for me yesterday. I'll add that.

If it ever played anywhere in the US, that's news to me. I don't know what was up with this film's distribution.

No worries! It was a very great pleasure to read.

I read UK reviews of it and was horribly jealous. Anything with a pterosaur as a major plot point needs to be seen on a big screen. It shouldn't have been the director-I thought The Fifth Element was a hit.

In his increasingly rare spare time, Matt runs a bande-desinee podcast because he loves the artform so much (and here in Quebec, as you can imagine, it is a very popular form of literature).

Yeah. I'd love to visit one of the French shops devoted to it. Do those exist in Montreal?

Oui! We frequent Planete BD on the Plateau. They even have a loyalty card!

Glad to hear that you got a chance to see Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec. We watched it a few weeks ago and greatly enjoyed it; I thought you would also. I loved the discreet nod to The Fifth Element in the pyramid scenes.

I trust the box arrived, and you've put its contents to use? If so, I can stop worrying about potential catastrophes....

Yes. There was even an Aziz.

I have not yet put it to use, but I have it. Thank you.

There was even an Aziz. Yes! Alia and I spent some time debating whether it was the same character or a relation, hindered in part because we couldn't remember the exact date for the opening of The Fifth Element.

Please set it up soon! Five minutes' time to prevent nightmares and catastrophes seems a reasonable exchange...

I loved Louise Bourgoin in the role. And the mummy physicist I thought was one of the best cgi characters I've seen. Not as complex as Gollum but the filmmakers seemed to know how to get character out of an appropriate stiffness.

I'm always reassured to hear that somebody else hates manga.
