What a fine day it will be when bacon is no longer the new black. And when cupcakes are no longer the new pink.

I'm not going to say what yesterday was spent doing, until after today is spent doing it again.

There were really only two work-type things yesterday. My editor and I have chosen the artist for the third Alabaster miniseries. ( Read more... )

Anyway, please remember I haven't seen anything beyond "Cold War." Do not drop spoilers. People have been doing that, and it's rude.

Apologies if I was one of those people. I've just internalized the fact that everyone but me has seen "The Day of the Doctor" already.

I hadn't seen the Indiana Jones-style poster for "The Rings of Akhnaten." That's terrific.

I suppose we'll probably pay to see it via Amazon. Though, with the next series so far off, there hardly seems to be a hurry.

Yup. It was actually done by the BBC.

I agree with you on the ways the Ponds went particularly in their last few episodes - I don't think anywhere else in New Who or old has there been such epic awfulness as "The Angels Take Manhattan", but I remain to be sold on Clara having any personality beyond being A Companion, and that mitigates my enjoyment of the interactions. "Cold War" I loved, and I look forward to your thoughts on the subsequent episodes; "Rings of Akha-Ten" didn't quite work for me because that climactic speech just strongly brings Roy Batty to my mind and the comparison was not favorable.

On the one hand, she has oodles of her own self beyond her companionship.

On the other hand, fuck that. She's a companion. We do not need her to be something more than a companion. Even though she is. Actually. As it stands. But that's just gravy.

We've caught through the Series 7.2 episode "Cold War."

I don't usually like Mark Gatiss episodes and I loved that one. I thought it was great they brought an Ice Warrior back, I really like all the Second and Third Doctor serials they were in.

I feel as if, just before Matt Smith's exit, the character of Clara Oswin Oswald has arrived to show up the joy that the eleventh doctor could have been

Yeah. Especially towards the end, the Amy and Rory story had been stretched well past breaking point. And I really liked Amy early on, it's too bad they decided to make Rory a permanent companion. It's generally better when the Doctor and his companion get a one on one relationship. The best exception I can think of is the Second Doctor with Jamie and Zoe but the Doctor and Jamie were so clearly in love Zoe was like a pleasing side dish.

Yeah, this is where I include several gratuitous images, just because they're beautiful,Ah, those screenshots make me feel like I should've known this episode was right up your alley ( ... )

Yup. It became the Amy and Rory Show, with their wackily sidekick, the Doctor.

Agreed.

It was just beautiful. Those lines that the Doctor delivers to the Old God. Just...wow.

ho I remember having a similar fixation on Scheherazade and who also has a thing for the eleventh Doctor."

Hmmmmmm. I can't say I've ever had a thing for the Eleventh Doctor. Until now, I wasn't fond of him.

I wrote that last part because you'd been saying "bowtie" a lot at the time and I didn't realise you weren't pleased with Matt Smith.

Ah, yeah. He did get a few good lines.

David Warner singing "Hungry Like the Wolf" is an image to be treasured.
