"My own secret ceremonials..."

Yeah, okay, well today's working hard at being a pain in my ass. The climate's violent mood swings aren't helping. The micro-heatwave has come and gone. On Wednesday the high was 91˚F (with a heat index over 100˚F); today the high will be about 75˚F. Yeah. Okay.

Albert Perrault's Fecunda ratis, as painted by Matthew Jaffee

That's absolutely beautiful. If it's not a digital painting, are you going to get the original?

It's not digital. Matthew doesn't even own a digital camera. I'm assuming he'll be keeping the original, as it usually works that way.

Understood. I was not familiar with Mathew's work. I am glad it's going to be in the world.

He really doesn't have much of a web presence. I discovered him by way of Jerad, from Centipede, and Matthew's work on the CP volume of Arthur Machen.

I speak of terror, and of horror, and of the weird, and here there are all three.

I understand that you hate misuse of the word "awesome." I agree. I don't think it would be misused describing this painting.

Yeah. Awe. In its correct usage. That applies, as well. I agree.

I've just reached the Valley of the Sun God region of Egypt...

I can see that whole zone being a kind of "Ozymandius" moment for Isaac. Plus, I happen to enjoy the Guardians, who have a slow, sad, and rather eternal tragedy to them.

Yes. Totally. I could not have asked for a better landscape against which to play out this portion of his story.

Very nice. The contrast between the central figure's pale skin and the dark surroundings and monsters works very well, both in tying the monsters to the environment and in giving the painting a pre-raphaelite feel.

Mr. Perrault will never be a darling of feminist art critics.

Well, speaking as a feminist, I like it, but I think "feminism" may have taken on another meaning for many and those who subscribe to that meaning would probably not approve, yes.

We've been watching Season Three of Boardwalk Empire, which has to be, by far, the most beautiful thing on television.

I kept up with the first two seasons but I kind of fell out after the first three or so of season three. I agree it's impressively beautiful but it felt a little static for me. Maybe I'll try it again, maybe it was my mood.

Speaking of The Secret World, I've been gaming too much

I actually spent multiple hours on The Secret World last night. I really want to get out of Blue Mountain.

Sort of Lovecraft ( ... )

Well said. It isn't precisely how I ever imagined the painting, nor how it's described. I think it might be better.

Yup. For example, some would undoubtedly condemn it as contributing the "rape culture." Though, that would be terribly presumptuous.

You should give it another go.

So far, Blue Mountain is very much my least favorite zone. They just utterly blew it there. I mean, FUCKING SASQUATCHES?!?!?!

Also, at some point, once you're clear of Blue Mountain and in the Scorched Desert, we should quest together again. I loved that Mulder/Scully vibe.

Yes. The word "rape" is thrown around entirely too lightly as evidenced by the creation of the really unwise new term "rapey".

Generally too useless sasquatches, too. When I'm dealing with 8 foot tall muscle bound beast men, I don't expect to be the one always cutting them out of webs so they can run away while I fight.

Me too, that was fun. It made me want to watch The X-Files again--I don't think I have in at least a decade. Which is nice knowing I haven't watched it to death like I did with Twin Peaks.
