Jesus, my last update was when Ellie was born. That's now quite a while ago. Needless to say, much has changed. A potted version:

Ellie is doing well. She is the smiliest baby I have ever seen; constantly grinning from ear to ear. She's very relaxed and easy going as well. We've managed to get her sleeping from 8pm til around 5 or 6AM, which is ( Read more... )

Yeah, I find I have to be updating 3 times a week at least, otherwise you get into that trap of "too much to say, needs a big post" and never getting round to it. Plus I just plain get out of the habit of it.

Re the pics - get some more uploaded of you guys! It's such a nice way of checking in on people, even when they're as lame at updating blogs as we are ;)

Ha, yeah - he's grown a bit since you last saw him.

Hopefully it won't be *too* long before we can get them both on a transatlantic flight.

Wow...just wow. He's a proper little boy now. I miss you all so much, and really want to meet Ellie in person. We were trying to avoid England until after the Olympics, but now I want to fly over there now just to see you all!

What a shitty attitude - you're absolutely right that you're better off out of there *is indignant on your behalf*.

I was explicitly told in my last seat by one of the major partners that I had ruined my chances by taking paternity leave, so I pretty much knew what to expect.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

*quickly changes subject before killing rage descends*

Your kids are lovely! And Jess is so big now. Moving is a pain but you're moving back towards something better and nicer and less full of crapness, so maybe that'll reduce some of the stress. Having family and a support makes a big difference, as does being in a place you actually like being.

All the best to you all, big psychic hugs to the family.

Is that even legal to admit as a reason for dismissal? I thought statutory meant legal minimum?

I was unfortunate enough to lose two jobs in three months early last year, but it led to getting my foot in the door at the OUP. I'm glad you've got a good attitude about it, and I'm glad it's going to give you the opportunity to do what you really want where you really want to be.
