I'm dreaming of white England

Today I comprehensively cleaned my kitchen while watching the first half of S1 of True Blood. Multi-tasking FTW. I also vacuumed the living room. Tomorrow is my last half-day of work before Christmas: I think Christmas is going to explode upon me before I really know it ( Read more... )

You're in Christchurch, yeah? That's pretty far south, I'm surprised it gets hot at all! Hobart, which is the same approximate latitude, gets about 2 days of warm weather per year.

It's the driest city in New Zealand! And it depends what you mean by "hot" - it very rarely gets above the twenties, and the average nice summer day would be in the early twenties. I've given up thinking about what the weather is usually, though, because it's gone really strange, much more changeable and the longest coldest winter in AGES.

Interestingly, we're slap bang under the ozone hole, so it can be quite chilly with breeze and still BURN YOU TO A CRISP. Apparently that is partly because the air here is clear. Well, that's nice.

Exactly like the BNP! (Sorry! First thing that popped into my mind!)

My brother is in London and his house full of Australians have been running around in the streets in the snow!

Ahahahahha SNORFLE. Exactly like the BNP! LOL! Have to be careful saying things like that, I could end up friended by all the wrong people.

I think the snow is so exciting when you're not used to it! And when you don't nearly get trapped in the car with a six month old and a three year old on the way home, like my sister did! She JUST made it back, but is now pretty much trapped at home!

You know, it's weird. Canada is known for cold and snow, and though it's cold (-18!!!! KILL ME) We have no snow. We've had some flurries, but that's it. There was a little bit on the ground about a week and a half ago and that's it. Apparently some sort of storm has hit the U.K./Europe though as I was sent some lovely pictures from Milan and they've got quite a lot of snow as well.

I want to experience everything in summer... especially Hallowe'en. I was always pissed because quite often my Hallowe'en costumes as a kid were either ruined (doesn't look right with a big winter coat over top) or I froze. Tres annoying.

Minus 18 is JUST RIDICULOUS. You must talk to the government! Maybe it's too cold to snow? Does that ever happen? Or too dry - like in Antarctica! You should get a pet penguin for Greggly to play with.

We don't really have Halloween here- the retailers keep trying to make it happen, but no one really does it, and there's too much stranger-danger anxiety for it to START as a kids' thing now, I think. But it would be awesome to have a big Halloween party! My friend Claudine had one in Australia one time and basically all the girls went as "naughty nurses" but with bikinis etc on. That would be a good party! SWIMMING!

You're telling me it's ridiculous! Fucking winter! I hate it so much!

See? That sounds like an awesome Hallowe'en paty! I've heard lots of places don't do Hallowe'en. It really is a lot of fun if you like candy, scary movies and dressing up like something crazy or grotesque though! I can see how it would be hard to get it started now. I remember a few years ago they tried to put a curfew on Hallowe'en so that kids had to be in before it was dark, but it didn't work. Part of it is going out after dark so it's scarier! And really, young kids should go with their parents.
