Swan lake... sorta!

Some weeks teaching is hard. Very hard. It's not so much that the material isn't interesting, or that the students aren't in their own way quite brilliant, but the huge sense of responsibility can be very wearing. I'm trying to convey not only information but an approach to learning that encourages them all to really engage and take charge of ( Read more... )

a bit worn out, weather, watching tv and eating are two of my fav, random, my mum, teaching, rl

The responsibility is the biggest thing that keeps me up at night. What happens if my students fail? I'll feel like it's all my fault! Am I doing the best for them? D:

Jim Beaver on Criminal Minds? DAMN! I forgot to watch it!! D: D: D:

Well I am pretty sure it was him, only he was a small local cop type part and not wearing his signature hat so I was thinking "why why why Jim Beaver?" I was too busy hoeing into my dinner to be totally sure.

"Is that Jim Beaver? NOMNOMNOMNOM" = me. Very attractive!

And yes. What if they fail? What if they DROP OUT? What if the entire process of their life is altered because they hate my class? RAAAAAAAAAAAAA D:

This is really interesting.

I'm currently training to be a teacher and am doing an assignment on open-ended investigations. The main premise being that students will cognitively engage with the material if they have control of their own learning. Anyway, it sounds great to me but I'm terribly inexperienced. The only experience I have is very much of the chalk and talk variety XD

How are you all, anyway? I'm dopey, but interested!

We had a wonderful storm this afternoon with hail, lightening and thunder. It was very impressive!

I think open-ended investigations are a great way of pedagogically engaging BUT the older students get the less likely they are to engage with the challenge of it if they've never done it before. I think the earlier the idea can get introduced, the better it is. Otherwise the TERROR of the wrong answer is just tyrannical.

I love storms... if I'm inside. I got caught outside with hail today, impressive but COLD!

That is precisely why I could never teach. I have a hard enough time just plain training someone in a new position. I always forget stuff, or explain too much too fast and just bluck. I do not envy teachers, especially on a university level.

How am I? I'm freakin' tired! I went to a concert on Tuesday night, didn't get to bed until really late, made it through work yesterday fine, but then was so tired last night that I passed out, forgetting to set my alarm and woke up about an hour and a half late. Thank god for cabs or I'd be panicking right now. Last of the dayshifts though! Yay!

Which concert? Was it good? Did you rock out???
Yay, for the end of dayshifts though. You're a creature of the night!

Nine Inch Nails! I'm going to put an update up on here eventually. Probably today while I eat pizza and watch some Olympic fun! God I love the summer games.

I am a creature of the night! I miss my old job. Afternoons all the time, weekends off, internet and t.v. at work! Oh man!

watch Gordon Ramsay while eating my frozen dinner

I don't know why but that makes me a little gleeful. *snort* I also especially like to eat dinner while watching Survivor. They're all starving and eating bugs and I'm like.....mmmmmmm extra ice cream please! It's oddly satisfying.

Eating and watching TV is SO awesome. The only thing that really turns me off eating is on Fear Factor - and most of that is okay apart from the almost hatched duck eggs that are like, half egg, half foetal duckling! That makes me gag. But I really have to admit to loving food shows, even though I don't really cook. :D

Oh, I don't cook either. But you know what's literal crack? the Food Network. I can lose myself there for HOURS.

Oh I loathe Gordon Ramsay! I can't believe that monster is actually REWARDED and ENCOURAGED for being a cunt. Am I allowed to say cunt in your journal? Sorry. There are some people for whom only the last verbal taboo will suffice.

I suspect that if you're feeling the weight of responsibility, it probably means you're a fantastic teacher. Sometimes I just want to know the answers and I think it's normal. Questions and issues that are really, really open ended make me nervous, especially when writing essays. One of mine last semester was 'Why do we still have museums?' I mean, honestly.

Ahahahah yes he is a CUNT. He's got a campaign to "get women back in the kitchen" - it seems we've got alienated from our biological imperative to cook. I say "SUCK IT, GORDON."

I love open-ended questions. I actually just typed "open-ended kitchens" but actually I hate kitchens and I hate to cook, most of the time, as well. Suck it, Gordon.
