Dawn’s POV
I know who he is and he knows who I am, but he’s never really met me. To the rest of the world I look like I’m eighteen years old, but I’m not. Not really. I have eighteen years of memories, but only the last three years are real. Because the years before never really happened, I had only heard the stories of Buffy leaving, little did I know that I was doing exactly the same thing she did; working at a small diner in LA while running from what she didn’t understand and didn’t want to think about. I am subconsciously retracing her exact steps.
Then it happens; he comes in looking oddly condemned for some unknown action. He has a surprisingly feminine reaction to his confusion; chocolate.
Wesley’s POV
It’s been a long day, a new workplace and new competition for Fred’s attention. It was bad enough when Gunn got there first but now Knox. I mean really what does she see in him? Life has become so confusing. Cordy’s in a coma therefore severing our link to the Powers that Fuck with us. Gunn is now mister legal mumbo jumbo, what Wolfram and Hart had no use for our street tough down to earth Gunn so they filled his brain with their legal-ease and sent him to do their bidding. Lorne isn’t having a problem but he seems pretty adaptable and he was never really one of the good guys he was just one of the people on the sideline who became our friend but I think he always saw both sides of our “epic battle”. But Angel’s the really confusing one he comes down when we decide to join Wolfram and Hart and flies out the door. Not literally mind you but still. When he’s around me there seems to be a hostility and anger at me for something that I don’t remember doing. I seem to be the only one not fitting in at our new offices. Oh well there’s not much I can do tonight I guess I’ll just go to the diner across the street and have a slice of chocolate cake.
Wesley walks into the diner and sits down. Dawn I walks over to him, wondering if he will recognize her me. “What can I get you?” she I ask.
“Chocolate cake, please,” he answers while staring blankly at his hands. When Dawn comes back I return and place the cake in from of him, he looks up to say thank you. their Our eyes meet, and Wesley breathes out her my name, “Dawn.”

Dawn’s POV
“Hey, Wes,” I say, and again I think about the fact that I’ve never really met him.
“Hello.” He sounds so proper and…I don’t know…British? My shift is almost over and he’s the only customer in the place, so I sit down.
“What are you up to?” I ask him. He tells me that he met up with Angel and Cordelia a few years back and that he has been working with them fighting demons ever since. He also tells me that they traveled to another dimension to save a frightened scientist and that Fred is now working with them. I tell him about my last three years, surprised that he didn’t know that Angel went to Sunnydale last year, or that I was a mystical key. He didn’t even know that it was us we were the ones who caused the Sunnydale cave in.
“You really never looked back once you left.”
“There was never really anything to look back on. I was a bumbling idiot during my time in Sunnydale.”
“I didn’t think that. It wasn’t only Cordy who thought you were handsome and charming.”
“Dawn, you have turned into a lovely young woman, but I’m practically old enough to be your father.”
“Well, duh! I only came into physical existence three years ago, but I was around before that, so technically I’m the one old enough to be your ancestor.”
The conversation stalled there, and then my manager came over and told me I was free to go home. “I have to work early tomorrow, so I should go.” It was already 11:00 pm, and when you have to work the 5:00 am shift it was hell. I got up and walked away, smiling as Wesley rose and followed me.
“It isn’t safe for you to be walking alone this late at night.”
“Umm, sister of a Slayer? I also held my own when we closed the Hellmouth.”
“Nonetheless, I’d like to walk you home.”
We walked in silence through the darkness to my small, one bedroom apartment. When we got to the door, I opened it and invited Wesley in for tea. I’d found after living with the S.I.T.’s in Sunnydale that the nightly ritual made me sleep better.
I walked through the door and he followed me in. I turned to my bedroom to get out of my smelly clothes, asking Wes to plug the kettle in. I pushed my door closed just only to have it pushed open behind me. I was reaching for the straps of my apron when Wesley grabbed my elbow and turned me around. I opened my mouth to gasp, but before I could draw breath his mouth was on mine. This man was refined in everything he did, his long, elegant hands coming around to cup my face between them. The kiss continued for a long moment and then he pulled away. I don’t know how long we stood there looking at each other, but it seemed like an eternity before he dropped his hands and mumbled something about my needing my sleep. He let himself out of apartment, reminding me to lock the door behind him.
I returned to the kitchen and made my tea, I sat at the table with my tea, knowing that even my ritual wouldn't calm me enough to sleep tonight.
