Ronan, bleary-eyed, moved into the kitchen from the living room, where he'd been sleeping on the couch. "Nngh," he said. "What time is it?" He blinked. "Oh, presents. I need to go buy those today."

Carmela just gapes at him, at a loss for words for a whole five seconds. A new record, surely. "Excuse me," she says finally. "Can you repeat that? 'Cause I must have misheard you."

Ronan poured a mug of coffee from the pot that was percolating -- yes, coffee -- and sipped at it black. "I need to go buy presents," he said. "I mean, it's kind of my last chance."
