The weather has turned. For me this is a big event. I HATE the first hot spell of the year. I can't sleep, my head gets stuffed up, my sinuses ache, I feel cranky and out of sorts, I hide in the house. I'm not a summer person

What a lovely description. I could see and smell it all. I will choose to ignore the barfing noise from the cat in the audience.
I grew up on Lake Michigan, and didn't realize how the scent of the lake permeated all of the seasons until I left. It only got bad in the early summer when the alewives would commit mass suicide on the beaches. The best smell of all was the first few warm days when every time you inhaled there was the feeling of spring.
Yes...I can't blame you for that. I think the cats exist to keep me from romanticizing things too much. Whenever my internal monologue starts waxing too eloquent about how glorious the day is or how cute the cats are being, they're right there with something that brings me back to earth- the discovery of chewed up gopher parts next to my flowers, hairballs, you name it.
My favorite for smelling smells is when you go on vacation and come back- then you can smell things much more clearly. My favorite smell loop is to go up to the mountains where there are pines- and smell the pines, and the snow, or the dirt depending on the seasons then come back and be able to smell the cedars and ocean and orchards here.
Oh I agree so much. The last few days have been miserable, but yesterday I got my favorite weather back! Cold and windy and foggy, and getting little drizzle/fog particles blown into my face. Mmmmm. I hope it stays like that.
Where do you live, by the way? I'm in SF, and your weather description sounds sort of familiar... On second thought, I bet you're in Oregon like all the other cool people. ;)
The whole coast area can get the same weather fronts sometimes, the weather doesn't know where we've drawn our lines! As if happens though, I am north of you, but still in CA. We usually don't have SF's weather though.
:< Awww! But thanks for reminding me I haven't been to the climbing gym in ages. It's hard to find climbing buddies! My old ones have moved away or are busy and poor, like the sis (who has probably been my most constant climbing buddy). Good thing I'm busy and poor too?? They always have message boards where you can advertise for one but I'm far too nervous about strangers to try that.
