These are absolutely fantastic. I'm so glad to see that some rare actresses are iconed too:) Everything's seems alright to me. Do you know if the Vargas girls are inspired by actresses though? I mean, to stay really faithful to the theme it would be better if she was an actress. Or you could replace it by one of your alternates like the Jane Russell one for example.
But that's not an obligation, since pin-up artists almost always took starlet models anyway:)
Oh, I'm not sure I remember the pin-ups names, but if I need to change it, I'll change it to this icon.
And I love the rarer actresses. I just recently watched East Is West, and it intrigued me to look into a lot of the actresses. I was sad to learn that the star Lupe had such a tragic end to her life. :( They are so interesting. I think if you could do a round with either silent film stars or actresses of the 20-30s, that would be really interesting.
I do know one thing about the pin-ups (know that I've thought about it); they are the Petty girls. A lot of them when on to pose for magazines and ads, etc. They were commercial women, but beyond that I'm not sure. Josephine Baker might also be a suitable pin up since she was a very sexy women who was outgoing with her 'pin up' poses.
Oh alright, thank you:) And thanks for letting me know all that, I have to say I'm more acquainted with Gil Elvgren, so I'm very happy to learn more about Vargas! Good luck for the challenge:)
Thank you. Coloring took forever on a lot of my 20in20 icons (I colored quite a few of the photos), so it took some serious patience (and a lot of background Netflix watching to pass the time.) :) Your comment is well appreciated! ♥
You did such a wonderful job on these and I love the alternates. I love seeing all these classic ladies in one place. ;) But I'm a bit intimadated to do my batch, now!
Thank you- I really tired (especially because it meant working with a lot of B&W images). Ever since I made these I've been on a Barbara Stanwyck kick via my Netflix and TV. And please never be intimidated. You are a fantastic maker- I'm currently browsing your 'pink' batch at your journal. ♥ Amazing!
Aw, thanks. :D I'm actually excited about the black and white images - I love doing them sometimes just because it's so different from colour. It's a nice challenge, although I might change my mind when I attempt to do my set this weekend!
