Posted for the second Dean-focused H/C meme over at hoodie_time in answer to the prompt: Dean shot by a human in the woods, Sam needs to get them out before he bleeds to death.

I've already done messed-up Sam and awesome Dean this week, so this prompt demanded the reverse.

( It was the third hunt they'd taken on two weeks. )

Hehe, Sam's so put upon, I can actually see Dean thinking that would be ok. I loved the way he was shot without violence and loud noise, and how you build up the suspense of being stranded in the cold with a serious wound (hearts to Sam's triage!). Dean's woozy ramblings and Sam's suppressed panic as he deals with what's happened were other high points for me, and the quote about the drop of blood for each step was nice <3

This is very good. I love that you put the reality of their tenious financial situation into the opening of the story.

Just found this. Oooh. Scary. I felt the tension and Smart!Sam with the stretcher and woozy Dean who didn't want to go sledding :) So good.

Holy crap, Sam is AWESOME. Building a stretcher??? Survival skill stuff like that is so cool. BAMF Sammy forever!!!

Sammy is totally a BAMF!

Usually when I whump Dean, I hurt him BAD, so Sam has to be awesome and save him. When I whump Sam, I usually don't hit as hard, so Dean just gets to be a nice big brother.

I hadn't really thought about all this in quite that way before...
