I LOVE THE GARGOYLE

Aug 29, 2009 16:50

I am really mad at myself because I can't seem to make any progress writing. The more time goes by without completing my next chapter, the worse I feel. Is this what is called writers' block?

In other news, though, I have just read an incredibly awesome book and want to recommend it to everyone. The book is The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson. It is ( Read more... )

It does sound like writer's block ;A; Unfortunate but you have to work with it. Have a few days where you don't think about writing at all, get (another!) nice book, relax and by not forcing it hopefully your muse will return. It's really tough as you just can't write anything at all but you can't make yourself write, you'll feel worse still. I hope you can ride it out! /crosses fingers

That sounds like a really, really good book. I'm taking your recommendation!

It is hard for me to take days off from trying to write and impossible not to think about it and feel guilty about it. I have already taken so long on this chapter and now I am going back and rereading what I actually do have and it is awful. By now I bet nobody is even interested anymore.

As for the book, it is very excellent but I do have to give a warning: It contains some graphic depictions of burn treatment, so if you are squeamish about that it might not be the right book for you. There is also some sexual content as the narrator is an ex-pornographer. But it is so so good if you don't have hangups about those things.

I understand that you feel guilty about not posting the next part, but I think that people would be quite happy to wait a few more days to get the version that you feel happy with and is of better quality rather than getting something quickly, but not so good. Why don't you post a notice to the comm, explaining that you're going to avoid writing for a few days in order to overcome the block, and I am certain that you will receive many comments saying that people are happy for you to do that. Most of those following the story are doing so because the quality of your writing, so to wait a few more days for a superb story isn't any great shakes, to be honest. We're not such bad people that we will stomp our feet, haha! Writer's block happens to the best of us after all. Please don't feel guilty, as this will only make your block worse D:

I guess people will be a little disappointed, but as long as you're not dropping the story all together, this will remain only a small feeling! Have you heard of the saying absence makes the heart grow ( ... )

Thanks for the support. I am not so self-absorbed that I would announce it in the comm. I feel bad that I might come off that way, but really I do know that I am no better or more important than anyone else who writes fanfiction. I would be out of line to make such a post.

And don't worry about the writers block, lovey! Maybe you just need to take a step back and clear your mind of it for a while, and focus on other things. ^^

Thanks! It is a really good book. Now I want to start a new book, but nothing will be able to live up to that one.
