I had one lovely afternoon going curling! I'd love to go again, but I'm no longer living in a curling-condusive location.

Hey now, the_lady_lily just told me that the UK women won the world's a couple of years ago. There has to be curling *somewhere* in London. :)

Actually, they're all Scottish, so it twas the British women really - it doesn't seem to have that much popularity south of the border. We just don't get the icy breezes needed for a good curl over the loch, I suspect ;)

a) I CAN'T WAIT for the winter Olympics to start. I'll even be watching the opening ceremony, I'm that hooked! As for curling, it's fun to watch! I've always wanted to be the broom-operator! Two of my Canuck colleagues here went to a curling event hosted by the Canadian Embassy - if they go again, I'm gatecrashing!

b) I've just finished JS&MN. I had some trouble getting into it (wasn't sure about the "dated" style and language (I'm not a big fan of "real" C19 lit)) but, like you, once the protagonists' personalities began to reveal themselves it became a great deal more interesting. In fact, I was unable to put it down at the end! So happy reading!

I never even heard about the Winter Olympics until I came to the US, because Australia doesn't like to talk about sports that we suck at, due to a distinct lack of, well anything usefully cold (unless you count the Antarctic territories, which are no good for sports...). Hell, I don't even know what half those sports are! However, Commonwealth Games? I'm so there.

Actually, all I want is somewhere to watch the netball final, which is about the most interesting part. :/
