Still in the process of figuring out how to make my 1872 bustle instructions work. There are of course mistakes and gaps the size of Texas in it, but I think I have it. Mostly.
Exhibit one : sewing the boning channels and preparing the gathers.

I read the instructions and I just don't get them. What's up with the "échancrure" thing ? Maybe my brain is just a jumble because of the fever of the last days. Or maybe it's just normal crazy La Mode Illustrée explanations :))

I remember reading somewhere that babies find contrasting colours and bold stripes interesting - maybe because their vision is a bit blurry at first, and so strong patterns and colour combos are easy to see. (Also, that black, white, and red are the most interesting).

I will *try* but I still have a hard time evaluating how much fuss he'll be by then... At any rate, I need an outfit for him for the picture with the craddle :D

Oooo that is soo cool! You can just make a petticoat and attach it 6-10 cm below the waist, you don't want it hanging too low, it may look good now but the weight of the skirts will force it down. Try basting it to a petticoat and test the hang by draping over it before you decide :)

I figured that out, yes. It was defnitely too high following the instructions (like, the first bone was just a few centimeters down from the waist), but I placed it too low after that. I've put it a bit higher on the dummy now but I think it still needs to be a tad higher even.
