Outlining for non-outliners, and why the right font matters

Aug 30, 2006 13:35

I don't outline. I can't outline, and I hate outlining. So why do I want to talk about outlining? Easy. I've written myself into a corner ( Read more... )

Valendon likes it. I'm not certain why he insists on dark blue, though.

Because he would write in blue-black ink? When I'm using fountain pen, I prefer blue ink to black. Though I have had my black phases in the past.

Also just wanted to mention the rasfc meet in Chester this coming Saturday. We talked about it ages ago and now it's snuck up on us. There is a current thread debating it. At the moment, it looks like me, Jacey and Charlie A who will be there.

Are you free? Can you make it to Chester? Any ideas on where to meet/eat?

Mmm, Parker blue-black permanent Quink.

(Given my propensity for getting the stuff all over, I was strictly confined to royal-blue washable for my secondary-school years.)

Possibly. And it would be very Valendon to _insist_.

Thank you for doing so, I would have *hated* it if people meet on my doorstep and I hadn't known. (I've just read Jacey's post - yikes! - so we'd better pencil in a later date.)

It's a shame the Mongolian Barbeque is no longer operative, it was a great place to meet.

I saw Jacey's post this afternoon, shortly after I'd replied to you here.

It looks like it will be postponed to either 23rd or 30th. I'll let you know nearer what's decided, in case you aren't able to follow the thread.

I've posted a couple of suggestions as to where to meet, but I really have no local knowledge of Chester, so any advice is gratefully received.

I'm pleased the diagram idea worked for you - though yours is so much prettier
that my pen and ink scrawls. I suppose making it legible means that you miss out
on the important phase of thinking you once knew what happened next bu can't read it : )

Well, there _is_ an element of cat-vacuuming in this - playing with numbers, picking the right picture and colours for the background...

But yes, it's *so* much better than trying to do a linear outline. This way, I can keep all of it in my head, and as a Gestalt writer, that's important.

I've been learning to diagram stories in my head -- diagrams more tactile than visual.

Inspired by discussion on the Synesthesia mailing list. Some syns are incredibly organized; for example, they can "see" what day of the week a certain date will be next year. (Others aren't organized at all.)
