Saturday's Anti-War Event in Salt Lake City

Jan 28, 2007 11:09

There was an anti-war event that was part panel discussion, part rally in the auditorium of the Main Library yesterday's afternoon. I was only able to attend the first half of the event, so I can't comment on Terry Tempest William's remarks or the film that followed.

The most powerful speakers were the veterans - one from Viet Nam and two from the ( Read more... )

thanks, Jen, for coming to the forum Saturday. I wish you had introduced yourself; I am Kim, one of the people who were moderating the forum (I am the older one :))
I look forward to all the groups working together on some projects in the future. We want this war to end because we want the deaths and injuries of our loved ones, and the deaths of Iraqis, to stop. I love our military; but we need to get Bush out of the position of the "decider".

by the way: I noticed there is no link to MFSO on the PPJ website. Does PPJ support the efforts of MFSO?

Hi Kim --

I think we have met -- weren't you the one who picked up the candles for the 3000th soldier candlelight vigil at my house?

I'm not sure if PPJ supports MFSO or not. I haven't been involved in organizing with PPJ since late in 2003.

I'd be glad to link to MFSO in a post here, though -- would you send it to me?

"I look forward to all the groups working together on some projects in the future."

I would like this myself, but I've been really disillusioned over the past few years how much infighting and splits ( and clashes of egos) there are in the various activist groups here. My husband, who's been involved in activism for the past 20 years says it's pretty typical of what he's seen around the country. The August 30th event was the last event that I helped to organize (I was on the program committee), and I think that experience was the straw that broke the camel's back. I'll help where I can but I want to do hands on things, like help with mailings or tabling, rather than organize.
