This is what I get told my a lot of the translators (the one whose posts I read most, anyway). A lot of canon information in FFVII is being retconned in favor of new canon. While I cannot say I hate the new Compilation as much as everyone else, the appearance of Gackt and Angeal and all this crap is making me kind of :/ about it all. There are some things I like, but the Jenova cells shit? The Buster Sword being more than a phallic symbol? Gackt? I do not like this over-writing old canon

I'd want it. You know, when all this new stuff wasn't too bad yet and wasn't screwing over the game royally... But now I'm certain that Gackt would be in the game as a hidden boss, Vincent and Yuffie wouldn't be optional, and there would be lots of sidequests about G-cells or whatever. And and and at least fifty people would have one wing. Like, Don Corneo would be the One-Winged Pimp, Mukki would be the One-Winged Bubby, and Mr. Dolphin would be... You get the point.

I want to play this game, but the idea of Gackt inserted horribly into FFVII canon makes me want to repeatedly hit my head against something hard.

The game is worth it so far just for the Zack, but there is literally nothing about Gackt's character that does not make me want to repeatedly hit my head against something hard. Pretty much every line he speaks I groan aloud.

Actually -- and I might be recalling this wrong, it's been a while -- wasn't the whole point of people turning into Sephiroth clones the fact that on the sly, Hojo has been shooting up everyone else with Jenova cells as well, thus eventually just turning all of SOLDIER into shambling black-clad "Reeeeeuuuuuunioooooon"-mumbling failures?

Oh: But yes. Angeal was at least marginally inoffensive until waaaangst and right now I roll my eyes anytime anyone says the word "honor" thanks to his 2-dimensional ass, and virtually nothing he says makes any sense. It's like he can't hear anything anyone else says. Look at this--

Agreed entirely re: Angeal. I actually smiled at some of his lines, surprising myself completely, AND THEN THE ANGST. And wtf, do we ever get his mother and his RAGDOLLNESS explained?
