I definitely need to visit 'Piraeus Museum' in Athens when I go there again in couple of weeks. Since system1988 got in trouble taking a picture, I imagine that no pics are allowed inside?
I am glad you liked it, it is indeed prohibited inb all greek museums to take picures with camera flash whether it is an intengrated part of the camera or just an addition to the original machine.
For the artifact in question I was given a solemn warning even before I got a chance to lift the camera so I could take a picture. This is due to the fact that (i think) this particular artifact is still an unpublished display. For now there is not ecven a record of it in the official museum artifacts catalog.
So if you indeed wish to pay a visit to Pireaeus Museum do so without a flash on the camera, it will make things easier for you!
Thank you for your advise. Can I ask you one more advise? Which museums in Athens do you recommend if I could visit just one, except Acropolis New Museum?
First let me add that the prohibition about cameras applied only for the wooden coffin. I was later informed that you can only do the shooting (applied to all exhibits) with an amateur camera and not a professional one. The flash is not an option altogether for all the exhibits.
Now, in answer to your question, apart from the New Acropolis Museum, the National Museum is a must. It's located on Patision avenue. Another option is Benaki Museum which has a vast variety of excellent atifacts that go back to prehistoric ages up to modern times.
