A/N - Sorry for the mix up here. My normal LJ I’d post this under is blocked by my computer, I cannot see shit. So, I am making this my main LJ till I can get my blocker un-blocked to be able and use my old one. It really sucks. So Aubreestjames is in all actuality johnnypenn.
a/n2 - I am so sorry about Heinkel and Darius. I don't know much about their characters. I think that since this story is AU that maybe....a bit oocness could be forgiven?

Darius and Heinkel sat at the café across the street from Edward Elric’s hotel. The snow was shoveled every hour on the mark because otherwise it’d get so deep that no one could traverse the town and work would never get done during the winter season. The breakfast crowd petered off as the time got on to ten in the morning. The sudden brightness of red flashed in the morning light and Heinkel spotted Elric walking across the street, intent on the café. He walked heavily on his left side due to the Automail leg. It left deep impressions in the snow that couldn’t be scraped off the road.
The bell chimed. Elric glanced about the room but kept for the counter. Amy, the daughter of the owner smiled at Elric; “Can I help you?” she asked. Elric smiled and gave her his order before picking a table. Elric lent over and grabbed a newspaper from the next table over and started to read. He was getting a feel for Pendleton before he started poking his nose around.
Darius gulped down his coffee and called for a refill. Heinkel took a refill as well. They needed to sound as normal as possible or risk Elric spotting them and becoming very suspicious of them. Greed hadn’t been too clear on his instructions, which meant that Heinkel was being careful and not giving Elric any hints. They paid for their breakfast and donned their nondescript coats before braving the cold.
“That’s Greed’s Boyfriend?” Darius asked, “He’s kinda young, don’t ya think?”
“Greed would never date anyone who wasn’t of age, he’s always been a stickler about that and why would Elric lie about his age?” Heinkel asked and shrugged.
“I suppose,” Darius muttered.
“Okay, so are we gonna get into his room or not? He’ll be fine with the Military, right?” Darius asked.
“I think we should split up. I’ll stick around and watch the kid and you can get into his room,” Heinkel replied.
“Okay,” and Darius was off for the back door of the Hotel. Heinkel found a good spot to watch the café and wait.

Edward read the newspaper three times while eating his breakfast. He paid and then braved the cold. His Automail creaked as joints began to freeze. It’d suck if he had to go to Winry for another pair of Automail. She’d wail on him with her wrench until she decided that he’d had enough punishment and repaired/replaced the arm and leg.
It was slow work getting to the ‘military base’ - the wind was strong and biting harsh. He was shivering horribly by the time he got to the front office of Pendleton’s Military Base. It consisted of a single room with a receptionist and a single door. Edward was permitted inside this door and he found that there were actually stairs going up.
“Hello? Colonel Belington?” he called out since he didn’t see anyone at the three desks decorating the far right wall apposite the stair well. There was a yell from upstairs and Edward wondered upwards. He came to a long straight hall and a cloud of smoke drifting out of an open door. Edward coughed but ran towards the fire.
Inside a man fanned a large sheet at an ever growing wall of flames. Edward let out a massive squeak. He spied a bucket of water sitting on the desk. Edward rushed forward, took up the bucket of water and threw it at the fire. A few whacks of the sheet and it out and now Edward could take in the scene. The half office half bedroom was in shambles with a large black shadow growing from the small, wood fireplace to the ceiling.
“Thanks, little guy,” the man said scratching the back of his head.
“Who are you calling small?” Edward glared balefully at the man.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you,” the man tried to shrug it off, “I’m Doug Belington,”
“Just the man I came here to see,” Edward replied with a roll of his eyes.
“I’m glad you finally got here, I was wondering when you’d show up,” Belington smiled brightly.
Edward glanced at him suspiciously, “Okay…?”
“I mean, with all the snow blocking the tacks,” and he shrugged, “I didn’t know if I could murder you in time or not,” and Belington drew his gun.
Edward didn’t have a chance to move before something bowled him over, took a swipe at Belington and the crashing of glass punctuated their sudden escape. They landed hard in a snow bank.
“What the hell” Edward tried to pick himself up to his feet, but the heaviness above him didn’t move, despite the Automail limbs scrabbling for purchase in the frozen ground.
“What’s going on?” an unfamiliar voice asked. Edward craned his neck to get a better view of whoever had kidnapped him.
“We had our hand pushed way before the proper time,” the man holding him still replied to the stranger.
“Lets get out of here then,” and Edward was slung across broad shoulders and carried away. He had the source of mind not to yell, whoever the man in that room was, he couldn’t be trusted and if he was in charge of the Military in Pendleton…than….it’d be a bad idea to bring any more attention to them than necessary.

Edward glared at Heinkel and Darius; the two goons that Greed sent along to protect him. Greed is going to die a painful death, Edward promised himself. He was going back to Central and the first thing he was going to do is beat the ever living shit out of Greed. Edward hadn’t made it easy for the two goons to keep him either. They had to resort to some dirty fighting which enabled them to dismantle Edward - missing arm and leg, check - which didn’t make the blond like them any more than in the beginning; despite, Heinkel saving him.
“You idiots have better have a good explanation rather than Greed sending you to make my job harder than it has to be,” Edward demanded from the chair he was tied to. Darius knew knots and Edward had no hope of getting out of the rope.
“He pays us as his personal bodyguards, but he sent us to keep you safe because he thought something might happen,” Heinkel explained, “and it did, so you’ve best thank him when he calls,” the last part added as an afterthought of a slight joke. Edward glared and bit his lip. He was worried.
“Greed won’t be mad at you,” Darius tried to help, “he just wants to know you’re all right,”
“That’s doesn’t help,” Edward replied, the strength of his anger left in a whoosh of air as Edward spoke, “This just means that there is more going on here than the Military unable to hold Pendleton,”
“We’ll wait for Greed to call before we do anything,” Heinkel said, staving off any plans Edward may talk them into. Tying him up was a long shot and they’d be lucky to get away with a scathing lecture from Greed, if they went off and did something stupid….going home wouldn’t be very fun.
“I’m going to make some soup,” Darius said, “Greed’s right about the little guy being too thin,” and he walked away as Edward sputtered about heights and how he was going to tear Darius apart and see how he [Darius] felt about being a small-fry. Heinkel too the other chair the warehouse office had to boast beside the desk and a window.
“Sorry about this, Edward,” Heinkel said, “I mean, tying you up and stuff,”
“Its so much fun, thanks a lot,” Edward seethed from his chair.
Heinkel lent forward, a frown marring an otherwise cheerful face, “Greed told us to take care of you, he said we could do whatever we had to make sure you are safe,”
“And?” Edward squinted.
“That’s what we are doing, if I hadn’t been there to save you from Belington…”
“Speaking of which, what the hell did that idiot think he was doing? I could have taken him out with my Alchemy, and I’d be much farther in this case than I am now!” anger replaced previous complacency.
“That’s what I am saying, you didn’t realize it till it was too late,” Heinkel glowered. Now he looked rather scary. Edward, despite the position he was in, wasn’t about to back down.
“He’d have stood there and monologue his entire plan like all egomaniacs tend to do,” Edward replied harshly.
“Or he could have just shot you and then, bang, you’d be dead!” Heinkel banged the desk at his side with a large fist; making Edward jump in his bindings. Now the young Alchemist looked uncertain of himself. In a way, it was refreshing.
“Edward, we’re here to do a job, we’ll be at your side, no matter what you do,” Heinkel sighed, “but if we think its getting too dangerous, we’re pulling you out,”
“You can’t make those decisions,” Edward shook his head.
“I can, I get paid to do this, Edward,” Heinkel stood. Darius re-entered with a cup of soup.
“I’m going to call Greed,” Heinkel said as he circled the desk. Darius took the abandoned chair and pulled it up to sit in front of Edward. He didn’t give Edward a chance to fight him, Darius gently grabbed Edward about the jaw and opened bone wide enough so he could pour the liquid into Edward’s mouth.
Edward didn’t know why he swallowed; only that he had too. This was embarrassing enough as it was, he honestly didn’t want to make a mess to add to it.
“Okay, boss, you’re on speaker…” Heinkel said and stepped away from the phone a single step.
“Edward, I know you’re mad at me, however, my contacts aren’t wrong and when they are, then you really have to worry about things,” Greed’s voice filled the room and Edward relaxed a bit at just hearing it.
“I’m feeding your lover,” Darius announced. Edward made a noise but was ignored as Darius poured more soup down his gullet. Edward growled and tried to yank his face away from the grip, but Darius held Edward steady.
“Good, he’s really quite thin,” Greed sounded pleased with that, “Now Edward, I will make it all up to you when you get back here and are in my loving arms, however, Heinkel and Darius are there to make sure that no one kills you, which is my top priority,” Greed sighed.
Darius brought his hand away and Edward slumped a bit; “Okay,” and his voice wasn’t very strong, so he repeated himself.
“Thanks, Edward, I knew you’d understand,” and the line went dead. Apparently Heinkel and Darius knew what they had to do.
“So…” Edward wondered after a few minutes of silence, “can I have my leg back, at least?”
“And your arm too,” Heinkel was smiling.
Edward looked relieved to hear it.
