...and bitterness, of course, is the worst sin a woman can commit.

Women are supposed to be sweet and commodating, and completely ignore the fact that they're fucked sideways by a society that lets them be cheated our of fair wages, assaulted, commodified, and then disparaged if they dare to raise a peep about it.

Well, Jong was a part of second wave feminism, before abortion was legal and during the ERA amendment fight, so if this poem is older, it does make sense.

Yeah. Why exactly am I supposed to beware of men who want to wear dresses? They're not more likely to be assholes than men who've never donned a frock.

And, on a shallow level, some men in dresses are quite pretty.
