Were I you, well, I'd have better side burns. But more importantly, I wouldn't pass this opportunity up. Not just for the wood, which would be enough of a reason, but for the chance to share time with another woodworker. Woodworking is one of those things that you can read about, and watch videos of, and experiment with, and you can eventually get real good at. But you'll never learn as much that way, as you would from talking and working with another experienced woodworker. It's one of those things, like hunting, farming, flint knapping, knife making, etc that really is best learned as a skill passed from one generation to the next, manually, and in close cooperation.
It sounds like the woodworking community is one that you would fit right in -- I suspect it will give you back lots more than you put in. So by all means, meet that guy and help him out. Perhaps you can, in return, offer him some wood from your own stock?
Yeah, I'm sure I'll bring a pile with me. I'll have to see what he's interested in first. If he does only large things, like furniture, than a handful of my small turning blanks won't help him.
The other advantage to traveling to meet with a guy proficient with power saws is that you won't have to worry about a loved-one finding your body after he murders you. He'll surely be able to dispose of your body properly.
