Jeff and I hustled up to his hometown on Saturday, it was our last chance to be with his family before Christmas, being that the holiday falls in the middle of the week this year and Jeff couldn't get time off for the real thing. The bit about Jeff's Mum reminds me of visiting John's mum...which was supposed to happen again this November, but she died earlier in the year. She was still fairly sharp but losing it a bit when we last saw her, and wasn't very mobile and at 101 it was a relief for everyone, really...she'd lived to a grand old age, but the last few years took their toll.
Last time I saw her she stood up with all her might, and told me to look after John, which was really sweet...I promised to. Good memories, and John is OK with it all, it gives some closure.
Still I'll miss going out to South Africa to see her and family, though :-(

I'll have Christmas with one sister, beginning tomorrow night after I get off work and get to their place (roughly an hour and a half, or perhaps 2 hours south of here) and through Christmas Day. Hopefully today will know if I'm going to be at Boxing day with the rest (such as what's left) of the clan the next day, the 26th and then work Friday and have the weekend off, per usual.
Enjoy yourselves and was glad to hear Jeff's Mom recognized him, a good sign for those with Alzheimer's and/or dementia.
Hugs and such!
