Facebook oddities

I've been spending a bit more time skimming Facebook, being that so many former LJers left for the hustle and bustle of the big time over there. I also have quite a few people who were never on LJ in my friends list as well. One thing I have noticed on occasions is a rather humorous relationship between adjacent entries in the "news feed." These ( Read more... )

I went to hit the "like" button on the LiveJournal entry and then realised that I couldn't - I have been away from this site for too long, which is strange, because I still write LJ entries in my head - it's the voice of my reflective and introspective side.

Funny, I keep looking for the "like" button on LJ, as well....

Hey, that's my former trainer you are poking fun at. Leave the lil greek boy alone. :)

I had the pleasure of chatting with Luke/Louk online before he came to the states. He was always friendly and a great guy to talk to, even when others in the chatroom accused him of being some aloof musclejerk just by his pictures. One thing he told me is his absolute love for eating, and pasta. I'm so glad he found success here in the states, it was what he was hoping for. When I had originally heard that he was your trainer, I thought what a coincidence. That whole six degrees of separation thing is less than we think. ;-)

When I lived down in Richmond, I had an amazing trainer who took me on, I'm sure, it was because I was not a youngster. He was curious what I could do. He kept me because, as he put it, I was the most stubborn man he ever met, if he told me to lift something I would do it or die trying. His name was Terry Hairston, look him up. After we moved to California, I was without trainer. I tried to maintain my routine, but I am the world's worst self motivator, really. A couple of years later, I was talking to Pete Collins (drool) whom I had known since moving to the bay area. He asked if I was looking for a trainer, to which I replied, who, Louk? They had not been dating that long and my impression of him was that he was very aloof and only interested in being around similar constructed men. Pete told me that I had that entirely wrong, that he would love to work with me and with that began a working relationship of many years. Louk may be a social butterfly, but when it comes to training he is serious, top to bottom. (don't go there ( ... )

Have you investigated Google+ ? It seems rather less vapid than Facebook and plenty of people on there now.

I have a G+ account. I just havent used it much. There isn't a lot of activity in my circles except for a couple people that mostly crosspost to here and/or FB. It's a lot of work maintaining lots of online presences. I thinned out some of my less used ones a while back, keeping LJ, FB, G+.

LOL! I spend quite a bit of time on FB now; but, also haven't left LJ. We're friends on both sites; as you have seen, my content for the two sites is very different. For the most part, LJ has much more substance and is more personal. Since I have family members on FB, I am really careful what I share there; plus, since I'm looking for work. I understand that potential employers may check out FB. They may glean my politics and background in theater, but they're not going to know much else about me.

I work both sides of the fence, here and FB. I use FB for the lightweight stuff, I will also crosspost some LJ content via the LJ-included crosspost feature, and leave the serious or private stuff here.
