In hot water again - it's a good thing

The repair guy from G.E. came by to perform the warranty work on my GeoSpring heat pump-based water heater. He was not the same guy that showed up a couple weeks ago, I figured he chickened out, and from what the guy (his name is Bruce) told me, I was right. That makes two correct diagnoses regarding this repair, the first finding a leaky ( Read more... )

I need to take a pic of my surgery scar now that it's all healed up. Even I don't know what it looks like, but everyone who sees it says it looks good. LOL

Hoping the skylights don't leak! Can you see the stars at night through the ceiling now? That would be fantastic!!

Now you really ought to take it easy tomorrow!

Not through the bathroom skylight, it has a frosted lens that makes it look like a recessed light fixture. When the two in the living room are completed, you can see the stars the same as you would through a window. Too bad the light pollution around here is kinda bad. Not like in a city, but not like out in the middle of nowhere either. Where Jeff's parents live, you can see the Milky Way.

"Where Jeff's parents live, you can see the Milky Way."

They are very fortunate!

I could see the Milky Way at the farm.. it was breathtaking!

I'm making up for lost time. Plus, I figure that while I am still stuck off of work, I will make as good a use of time as possible.

Is what you're referring to as the sun tunnel the same thing that's branded a Solatube?
When I build my previous house in South Carolina, I had two interior bathrooms that I originally envisaged with Solatubes. Too bad I had to reduce some costs. Those two tubes were about $700 installed (1996) but I often wished I'd kept them in the plan. :(

Same basic idea, "Sun Tunnel" is a Velux trademark. There is a mount/flashing with an attached clear plastic dome that goes on the roof, a low-profile frame with a frosted plastic double pane lens that mounts in the ceiling, and a thin-wall tube that looks like a stove pipe but with a mirror finish inside that connects the two. It's simple, but very effective. On a sunny day, it's like a 300 watt light. They are pretty easy to install in an existing roof as well, especially if you can access the attic space. Velux makes them in 10 and 14 inch diameters, I used a 14.

skylights are great - the only thing I don't like about them is when it rains HARD how loud it can get.

Hang in there Phil - we love you.
