Major suckage

A couple weeks ago I bought a new 'shop vacuum' for the garage (of mayhem). While I already have a big, ancient Genie wet/dry vac, the thing is showing it's nearly 20 years of age, and new filters are nearly impossible to come by. I made an adaptor of sorts to fit a newer cartridge-style filter used in later models, but they have an annoying habit ( Read more... )

Probably grease guns. I have 4 of them, two different sizes, each with a different type of grease inside, and with different connectors. They always give me fits, get slimy and are just a pain to reload. on more than one occasion while loading a new cartridge, the lock that holds the pressure piston back for reloading let go, launching the new cartridge across the shop and dented the tube. A dented tube will sometimes jam the piston, causing no grease flow and pissed-off me. Just as bad are bearing packers, with a huge amount of grease being smooshed all over the place and very little of it actually getting in the bearing. More often than not I go totally old school, grabbing a fistful of grease and working it into the bearings completely by hand.

Mmm.... greasy bear!

...though I must admit to a preference for Huberd's Boot Grease, which is nontoxic. ;)

And while I often don't have any immediate use for some of the gadget info you present - it's usually interesting, and may well come in handy sometime. So yes, please continue!

You always remind me of when I ran my construction company. I geeked out on all grades of fancy equipment. I'm sad that I had to let most of it go when I moved to Atlanta and the rest when I moved to SF. We're talking pennies on the dollar of what I paid. I own a cordless drill now, that's it. Your posts delight me. I love it when the parts double as fashion accessories.
