In bloom

Given our somewhat sluggish arrival of Spring this year it's taking a while for the various plants, trees and bushes to wake up from their wintry slumber. The lilac bushes are finally starting to bloom, which is always special to me. Some of the bushes here are taken from ones from where I grew up and predate me. Walking through the parks yesterday I was particularly struck by the scent of the bluebells in Holland Park. Being right in the centre of the city it's so easy to forget nature smells (other than fox pee). It made me crave it far more.

It's amazing how certain things, smells being one of them that brings back memories of our past.

For years I used to, and still do to a degree recall how the sun shown into various rooms of my childhood home through the fir trees, creating dappled shade. Even now, I'm envisioning looking out the clerestory window of our daylight basement to the front flower bed and the western sun shining in through the tree branches of our 60's era split level.

Up
