Weakened update

First off, I have to thank everyone who left notes of concern and encouragement in my last post. The past several days, leading up to and after the anniversary have been rough, no doubt about it. I lost my 'true' family in one fell swoop, and it's devastating. I've been trying to learn that 'family' can go beyond blood relatives. I have Jeff's ( Read more... )

I'm a little late to the party, but you have all my sympathies. I haven't come up on one year since my mom passed yet, but I can only imagine that it will be hard. Good luck, we're all thinking good thoughts for you.

Regarding the dangerous-crap-from-China thing: What brand is the windshield glass installed in your vehicles? I imagine the MINI probably got OEM or closely equivalent glass, probably E-marked and made in a reputable country, but I ask because I had to do a lot of phonecalling to find someone who'd even try to get a non-Chinese windshield for my truck, and my truck uses the same DW914 as your truck.

Both of the windshields are branded "SGC", which is Safelight's own brand. No origin is shown (ugh), it could be from anywhere (China). Both pieces are optically true, no distortion, proper tint and in the case of the MINI glass, identical edge stenciling. As far as the MINI glass is concerned, I doubt anything could be worse than the OEM crap. This is the third 'shield on the truck, the previous replacement was Mopar. Those days are gone, though. I'll let you know what happens when I take a hit on either one.

Safelite used to be a reasonably reputable outfit. No idea what the inevitable MBA takeover has done to them. My installer had a hard time getting the truck windshield installed so as not to leak; I need to call him and remind him he's not done.
