Every time you write a seven samurai story I kick myself because 1. I haven't seen the seven samurai and 2. I can't fully appreciate your story.

It piques my interest, though.

I can't help it, it's one of my favorite all-time films.

"The Magnificent Seven" film did a great Western take on the story - so much so that "Samurai" director Akira Kurosawa sent the director a samurai sword! (Ironically, Kurosawa was inspired to do "Samurai" because of his love for American Western movies.)
