He sighed as he sat in his apartment, running a come through his hair. Work had been long and he was glad for the reprieve. After changing and getting cleaned up, he was ready to go spend time with Annie. It would be nice to catch up with her. He'd been read in on the ops he missed, but that wasn't the same ( Read more... )

The car was now Annie's baby. She'd been taking excellent care of the car - namely not taking it to Langley on a daily basis. Saving the Corvette for the weekend was one of her favorite things to do; she considered it a reward for a week well done.

Danielle hadn't quite understood why Auggie had handed Annie the keys to a car and then skipped town and Annie hadn't been very forthcoming with answers. To stop her sister from any other questions, they'd gone for a spin.

When Annie pulled up to Auggie's apartment, she parked carefully next to the curb. "Hey, hot stuff," she called. "Are you goin' my way?"

"You know, I think I am. Spare room for a man who can't drive himself?" He laughed and tapped his way to the car. Shrinking his walking stick, he opened the door and climbed into the car. "She sounds good," he said with a smile.

"Well, what are you waiting for? You have the top down. Let's go." He reached out and patted the dashboard. "Come on, Annie. Let her loose."

It was nice to be with Annie and not think about the recent past. As long as he could have a little fun and distraction, that's all he needed. And he found that in his friend.

With Auggie in the car, she didn't want to do anything too reckless, but once they were on the highway, she made sure to bring the car up to an acceptable cruising speed and then she settled back in her seat and looked over at him.

He looked relaxed enough.

Because the top was down, she couldn't do a whole lot of talking, but she let the radio do its thing. Mingus, naturally. Then she reached for his hand, her fingertips stroking the back of it.

"Mingus. Annie, you flatter me." He smiled and it felt good to have the wind through his hair. With the top down and the music playing, this was the best way he could think of to relax. All he needed was a beer and it would be perfect.

He blinks and looks in her direction. His hand turns over and willingly takes hers in it. He didn't think that the car was going that fast. He wondered if she was taking it easy on him.

"Annie Walker. Ready to go out and have some fun? I might even ignore the other girls this time," he teased.
