Variegated Yarn Tutorial

Sep 30, 2012 19:39

I have a lot of variegated yarn I didn't choose. It's pretty, but sometimes it seems to look prettier in the hank or on the cone than in a project. I've looked for patterns for it, but, seriously, I don't need six-hundred and ninety yards worth of pink, white, and black potholders.

Er, I don't knit, but if you're looking for a project to use up some yarn, knit some squares (approx. 2'x2') and donate them to your local animal shelter. They can be placed in cages so the homeless animals have something soft to curl up on. I recommended the same thing to a former coworker, and she had a blast doing it. She even gave me one, and my cats love it.

That may be the eventual fate of some of this stuff, thanks for the advice.

Who do you think uses the baby blanket? ;-p Nose disapproved when I took it outside to take a picture of it.

I don't knit (I hate all needle works with a passion, TBH), but I enjoyed looking at your different patterns and mixtures of colours. And the green shawl with the drop-stitch pattern is truly lovely.

Aw, thank you. I really like that scarf, too, enough that I'm adapting the pattern for an afghan in shades of blue and purple. If you ever want to give needle work a try, that scarf pattern is incredibly easy.

I was also going to suggest knitting kittie throws for the animal shelter. My mother did it years ago with a ton of leftover yarn. I actually saw some of her creations at animal adoption fairs. Plus the throw goes home with the kitty (or they're supposed to) when they're adopted so they have something that smells like them in the house.
Good luck!

I'm actually trying that, though my own cats may claim the first blanket by the time I'm done. That's such a neat idea though, sending them home with something familiar.

Thanks!

Using solid color to break up the chaos ext_3015438 February 16 2015, 20:05:21 UTC
Thanks for suggesting using a solid color to break up the chaos. I was crocheting a triangle scarf with a variegated yarn that was starting to worry me about having too much chaos. Throwing in a couple rows of a solid color really helped a lot.
