Flipping the coin

Feb 22, 2010 16:50

There's an article in The Frisky(?) about 14 Celebs Who Are Jerks In Person (and a related article at Cinematical.)

I've been fortunate in this respect; the few celebrities I have met have been very kind and gracious. I'd like to take a moment to illustrate the flip side of the coin:
Tom Savini )

geek, linky, gaming

And not all celebs are jerks all the time. I've a personal friend who met Henry Rollins and he was really nice to her. Even gave her an autograph and chatted her up, and she was with her boyfriend, so it wasn't like he was trying to get laid.

I've met way more than my share, both as a con organizer and just as a fan, and occasionally as a random occurrence.

Rollins is just fine in person. Get him talking about something he's passionate about -- he has little patience for suckups or toadies from what I've seen.

*nod* Which is what makes me wonder what was going on at the time, since I've always heard Rollins is very cool.

I second the "not jerks" verdict on Tom Savini (met him twice) and Brice Campbell (once).

I thought Brent Spiner was pretty cool.

Peter Davison was totally sweet and his hands are soo soft. I only regret that I couldn't get close enough to snuffle him. Lewis Black was totally different from his stage persona. He was very kind and has a soft, quiet voice. He autographed my CD and chatted for about 5 minutes. Gerry Cooney is quite the happy go lucky guy. Very down to earth. He is HUGE. He shook my hand from the forearm down. Great laugh.

There are plenty of just plain ol nice celebrities out there... they just don't sell the trash mags like the others.

Savini is an absolute sweetheart; i've met him several times, and he's always wonderful. bruce Campbell... well, it depends. He can get pretty mean and snarky.

Thank you for saying this about Campbell before I did. I was compelled to, but would prolly have my opinion written off as part of MY bad naturedness.
