Just had someone offer me a 42" plasma TV in exchange for my 1988 Camero. The value of the TV ranges from $999 to $1499 retail, depending on the location, and the fellow claims that there are 2 years left on the warranty and that the warranty can be transferred into my name

yup. every single time. even by supposed "friends." I say, if you need the $$ then wait for someone to pony up $$. Screw the TV idea. You don't even know if it works. The resale value is much harder on used electronics than on cars. I say either lower the price a bit, or wait for another buyer.
