Tonight I served up salisbury steak with mushrooms and gravy, mashed potatoes, and broccoli.

Ethan wondered what the main course was, and I told him. He had some trouble getting his mouth around 'salisbury', as is normal.

Later on, though, Carissa wanted more broccoli, and Ethan asked for some more raspberry steak.

I served up a sort of ground pork stroganoff over rice with broccoli to the family. Ethan picked at his, then wanted to be excused to go play some computer games. Carissa saw the opportunity to eat some of the food he didn't want, and reached for his broccoli. When Ethan was eighteen months or so, he was crawling/toddling around, and working everything he could reach - remote controls, light switches, and my tape player. Of course, he managed to find my George Carlin and Richard Pryor tapes. OK, time to intercede before he repeats what he hears!

Carissa, our 20-month-old daughter, now wants a different spoon for each course she eats.

If she gets yogurt and applesauce, she wants a new spoon for the applesauce.

Where could she have gotten that??

Ethan is very fond of a popular tune that heralded the end of the disco era. As he is three, he takes liberties with the name of the song, substituting a hip adjective with that of a playful icon he is more familiar with.

Anyway, he has discovered that in pop music, there are two basic types:
