Contact Information

What are your thoughts on the contact information? Do you put Tel., Fax, Toll Free, etc. before the numbers?
Are we supposed to minimize the amount of words that go into contact info?

Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot to ask how you guys feel about dashes between the numbers. Do you use them? Do you leave empty space in between, or do you use periods?

I find that the numbers speak for themselves.

If you need to have a fax number in your contact in addition to a regular phone number, even just an F might do the trick.

That is a good trick, and should work for most applications.

I'd say, though, it depends on your design. Spelling the word out looks more appropriately sophisticated for some looks, and really you're talking about the difference of two words v.s. readability. The main reason to be brief is so that it's read quickly. A simple "F" might do the trick, but it might confuse some people, too. So, you could go either way in that case, and just let the layout and font dictate which works best.

There is no "supposed to," it is merely a good idea. The fewer words on the page, the less work the reader has to do. But don't make it cryptic. Ultimately, your customer is the last word on what works, and if that customer is you (your own business cards) then go by how it feels. Try various degrees of complexity and simplicity and compare them. Look at them at full arms length. Place them on a table and stand ten feet away. Which work better?

For example, this:

1. I use just the number(s) if it's only one or even several but no fax (like 123456789 | 987654321).
If there's a fax I'll put a T and a F before them.

I don't use any dashes or dots. I'll say the number out loud and write it down with spaces according to how I read it.

people are still faxing?

There are many businesses that still prefer fax to e-mail or snail mail for certain things.

I think it'll be a while yet before faxing truly becomes archaic.

Faxing is still the only acceptable form for electronically sending *legal* documents... I assume once that changes, they'll finally get phased out.
