trouble with transparent gif - photosohp blending options

Stupidest question ever, I'm sure. I've got a logo that I'd like to save as a transparent gif. It will be placed on a page with a patterned background.

I'm running into a problem with it because I've set an outer glow with the standard Photoshop CS blending options.

I think with that kind of outer glow/gradient you're kind of stuck, gifs don't play well with gradients. Your best bet is to throw the pattern behind it and try to line it up to the background of your page the best you can. If someone has a better way of doing this I'm all ears.

Oh and as a side note if you can get away with a 24 bit png that may work for you better but it's not well supported and probably a bad idea if you're looking for accessibility.

that's just not gonna happen in any easy or attractive way. it's best to use a transparent PNG in this case.

Definitely go for the transparent png, and don't forget to delete all the layers behind the image you want to be transparent.
