Er, what does the expression "spend a penny" mean? Would this be one of those times I'll regret not taking the time to have my drabbles beta'ed and Brit-picked?

There was once a time when people had to pay to use public toilets. In those times, it was a penny, which is where the phrase originated from.

It would have to be a pretty fancy loo to spend a Galleon, though!

Whew! I was afraid it might have somehow referred more explicitly to what one did in the loo or something.

I remember pay toilets when I was younger. Most were a dime or a quarter. Of course, if you were broke, you just climbed under the door anyway, which is probably why they gave up on them.

I suppose if the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black were to charge for the use of its loos, they might go for a Galleon. lol
