Thank you! I would deffinitely say it goes both ways. The way I imagined it was that Severus was unaware of Hermione's attraction to him. Hermione on the other hand realizes how forbidden her feelings are, so instead of simply pursuing, she looks to please him in ways that are permissible (such as through her classwork).
