Author's Notes: I'm so sorry, but I have no idea what challenge this could go under. The plot bunny bit my bum with it, and I had no choice but to post it. Forgive me? I won't do it again, I promise. However, fully-loaded plot bunnies are rare for me these days and this one had twitchy ears. How could I resist?
Hermione's hands, shaking ever-so-slightly, reached out to caress the leather. "Oh, Severus," she breathed, her eyes sparkling in the candlelight. He thought she never looked so beautiful.
Taking a deep breath, Hermione revelled in the scent. Overcome with emotion, she rubbed her cheek against the leather, feeling the smoothness against her skin. "This is the best birthday present ever," she said, eyes fluttering closed as she basked in the tactile and olfactory sensations.
Severus felt uncomfortable with her response. "Really, Hermione," he began, but she interrupted him.
"It's leather, Severus!" she cried. "The leather-bound, special edition of Hogwarts, a History!"
