The house stood rebuilt, but Snape smelled the acrid smoke from that night 30 years ago.
“Don’t hurt Harry! Please! Not Harry!”
Echoing screams drowned the cheerful crickets. He stood, hesitant, at the gate. The earth knew he’d been here before.
“Severus, it’s okay,” Hermione’s gentle voice said. “Harry forgave you.” She placed a hand on his arm, soothing the tremors. Glancing left, he saw her bushy hair limned by yellow lights from cheerful windows. His eyes cleared of the imagined sickly green glow.
“Com’on!” Potter, no, Harry called out into the night. “Get in here, before Ron eats everything!”
